#Chief Justice Torkonoo Files Supplementary Affidavit at Supreme Court.

Chief Justice Torkonoo has filed a supplementary affidavit at the Supreme Court as part of her legal challenge against the Judicial Council’s disciplinary committee. In the affidavit, she alleges violations of her dignity and fundamental rights, describing the treatment she has endured as inhumane and degrading.
Justice Torkonoo also raised concerns about the choice of venue for the hearings, which are being held in a high-security zone at Osu Castle, unlike previous similar inquiries conducted at the Judicial Service’s Court Complex. She argued that this choice of venue, coupled with other measures, constitutes a deliberate attempt to apply psychological pressure on her.
Additionally, Justice Torkonoo disputed the committee’s decision to allow petitioners to present evidence through witnesses rather than appear in person. She also claimed that she has been subjected to mental distress by the committee’s actions, including denial of access to her mobile phones, invasive body searches, and refusal to admit her husband and children into the hearing room.
In contrast, she asserted that petitioners’ counsel and clients were allowed mobile phone access and received preferential treatment. Justice Torkonoo argued that the committee’s failure to provide the legal basis or criteria for establishing a prima facie case against her hinders her ability to understand her rights and prepare an adequate defence.
The case is ongoing, with the Supreme Court yet to rule on the matter.
