EIGHT FOREIGN nationals illegally engaged in gold exploration and purchase against the new Goldbod Act, Act 1140 of 2025 have been arrested and detained by the police in the Banda District of Bono Region.
They are Sayaba Ziba, Kienu Dobou, Osman Tunabu, Nana Alhassan and Wadrago Abdulai.The rests are Aliu Sali, Ibrahim Wulba and Alhassan Imoro.
The eight including Nigerians, Ivorians and Gambians were arrested when they were activelly engaged in the Illegal mining and gold trading operations in the community of Wewe in the Banda District.
They are currently in police custody assisting regional police command in their investigations. The police said they were doing the business without license.
This was contained in a press release forwarded to media houses in the region and signed by Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, the Ghana Police Service spokesperson for the region.
According to the release, the ‘suspects were arrested on October, 2, 2025 at Wewe following a sustained intelligence and surveillance. At the time of arrest they were actively engaged in the illegal gold exploration and purchase activities.’
Items including a cash amount of Gh23, 450, quantities of raw gold and gold dust, Mercury and a lighter used in gold processing have been retrieved as exhibits and shall be forwarded for forensic examination as part of the investigation according to the statement.
The statement said they would be prepared for court soon after further investigation.
