An illegal miner met his untimely death in River Offin when he and his colleagues attempted to escape arrest by swimming last Wednesday.
He is only identified as Ando and his remains have been deposited at the morgue of the Dunkwaw-on-Offin Government Hospital.
It is not clear whether the other colleagues of the deceased who managed to escape are dead or alive.
The Upper Denkyira East Director of Operations of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) who briefed the ghanacrimereport.com revealed the incident happened at Railway Quarters, a suburb of Dunkwa-on-Offin in the Central Region.
He said members of a group of security persons composed in the “Operation Halt” got hint of the illegal mining activities of the suspects and sent drone to the site to monitor them.
The suspects upon seeing the drone took to their heels to run for their life in escaping arrest from the “Operation Halt”.
He said the Operation Halt team is still mounting a search for the other suspects who managed to escaped while investigations are ongoing who own those mine sites.
He used the opportunity to advise anybody engaged in illegal mining in the area to head warning from the government in protecting the Ghanaian environment as the nation dialogues on the best ways of doing legal mining in future.
