The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) of Sierra Leone has indicted Abu Kamara, former Finance Manager at the Customs Department of the National Revenue Authority (NRA), on nine counts of possessing unexplained wealth. The indictment, filed on August 14, 2025, alleges that Kamara’s assets are grossly disproportionate to his official earnings.
Details of the Indictment
According to the ACC, Kamara’s annual net salary is Le 152,790, yet he has acquired numerous assets, including:
– A registered company named UK Trading Mini Mart SL Ltd.
– Town lots of land in Gloucester Village.
– Buildings and land in various locations, including Off Peninsula Road and Cemetery Road.
– Vehicles, including a NISSAN and a white Hyundai Jeep.
Charges and Penalties
The ACC believes that Kamara cannot provide lawful justification for acquiring these assets, which are significantly at odds with his official declared income. The charges against him are contrary to Section 27(1)(b) of the Anti-Corruption Act No. 12 of 2008, as amended by the Anti-Corruption (Amendment) Act No. 9 of 2019.
Trial and Next Steps
The ACC has announced that it will apply for Kamara’s trial to proceed in absentia, in compliance with Section 89(7)(a) of the Anti-Corruption (Amendment) Act No. 9 of 2019. The Commission has reaffirmed its commitment to fighting corruption and protecting public resources.
The indictment of Abu Kamara highlights the ACC’s efforts to hold public officials accountable for their actions. The case will proceed to trial, and the ACC will work to ensure that justice is served.
