Activist Oliver Barker-Vormawor has taken to Facebook to express his outrage over the recent fuel tax hike. In a strongly worded post, Barker-Vormawor criticized the government’s decision to impose a new tax, describing it as “a slap in the face” to ordinary Ghanaians.
According to Barker-Vormawor, the tax is not just about the amount, but about the lack of accountability and transparency in governance. He pointed to past instances where Ghanaians were overtaxed to bail out state-owned enterprises, such as the Energy Sector Levy Adjustment (ESLA) and the TOR debt recovery Levy.
Barker-Vormawor also highlighted the alleged corruption in the petroleum downstream sector, citing claims of massive theft and embezzlement. He expressed frustration that no one has been held accountable for these alleged crimes.
The activist’s post has sparked a heated debate on social media, with many Ghanaians sharing their thoughts on the tax hike and the government’s handling of the economy. Barker-Vormawor’s post has also raised questions about the timing of the tax hike, which coincides with the June 4th celebrations. Alexander Afriyie
