A 50-year-old Florida man, Henry Betsey Jr., has been sentenced to two years of probation for felony bigamy after marrying three women in separate counties without their knowledge. Betsey wed the women between 2020 and 2022, using different dating apps such as Tinder, (link unavailable), and Stir to meet his spouses.
According to reports, Betsey’s scheme unraveled when Tonya Betsey, his first wife, became suspicious and began searching county records across Florida. She discovered that her husband was still married to two other women: Michele Betsey and Brandy Betsey. Michele, who married Betsey in November 2022, just three weeks after meeting him online, was stunned when Tonya reached out to her.
The Women’s Reactions
All three women expressed disappointment and hurt over Betsey’s deception. Brandy, who married Betsey in February 2022, told the court that he seemed like the perfect partner initially, saying “all the right things.” However, Tonya doubted Betsey’s apology, believing it was only spoken because “it was recommended by his attorney.”
Betsey’s Sentence and Probation Terms
On July 31, Judge Merritt sentenced Betsey to two years of probation, sparing him jail time. However, Betsey was ordered to stay off social media and have no contact with his wives as part of his probation terms. Despite avoiding prison, Betsey’s actions have left a lasting impact on the three women, who are now united in their disappointment and hurt.
