Ghanaian Businessman Kofi Boat Granted 10-Day Reprieve in FBI Extradition Case

Accra, Ghana – In a recent court hearing, Ghanaian businessman Isaac Kofi Oduro Boateng, popularly known as Kofi Boat, was granted a 10-day grace period to prepare for potential extradition to the United States. The extradition request stems from allegations of a $100 million romance scam and Business Email Compromise (BEC) scheme.

Kofi Boat, owner of ICEFOOD, a frozen food company with reportedly over 13 branches across Ghana, appeared before an Accra Magistrate Court on June 26, 2025. His legal team requested a 14-day extension to gather essential documents, but the court granted only 10 days, setting a mid-July deadline for submission.

The businessman maintains that all allegations leveled against him are false. His lawyers argued that the additional time would allow him to compile key business records critical to his defense in the United States.

The U.S. Department of State issued the extradition request, which was relayed through the U.S. Embassy in Accra. Kofi Boat is currently in custody of the National Investigations Bureau (NIB), while his wife is assisting with preparing business documents ahead of the anticipated extradition ¹ ².

The case has sparked significant interest, with many awaiting the outcome of the extradition proceedings. The court’s decision will determine whether Kofi Boat will be extradited to the United States to face charges ².
