#Ghanaian Mechanic Alleges Wrongful Conviction, Claims Police Setup
A motorbike mechanic in Ghana, Yaw Asante Agyekum, has shared a harrowing account of being wrongfully accused and convicted of a crime he claims he did not commit. In a recent interview, Agyekum alleged that police officers planted evidence and staged a photo to frame him as a criminal.
The Alleged Incident
According to Agyekum, the incident occurred when he was arrested by police officers in Nkawkaw. At the time of his arrest, he had only a motorbike key in his possession. However, he claims that the officers placed old weapons in front of him and took a photo, which was later used to falsely label him as a criminal.
Agyekum’s Story
In the interview, Agyekum recounted the traumatic experience, stating, “I will never forget this.” He emphasized that he has never held a gun before and is not an armed robber. Agyekum believes that his association with a notorious individual led to his wrongful conviction.
Support from Some Officers
Interestingly, Agyekum mentioned that some police officers who knew him spoke up in his defense, telling the other officers that he wasn’t a criminal. However, others were determined to paint him as one.
A Call for Justice
Agyekum’s story raises concerns about police conduct and the need for accountability in Ghana’s justice system. His experience serves as a reminder of the importance of ensuring that individuals are treated fairly and justly, particularly in cases where their freedom and reputation are at stake.
