Ghanaian Prisoner Arrested for Involvement in Romance Scam

A recent investigation has led to the arrest of a prisoner at the Nsawam Medium Security Prisons for his alleged involvement in a romance scam syndicate. The suspect, identified as William Ekpe, is one of four individuals linked to the scam, which targeted a 37-year-old woman in Accra.

According to reports, the syndicate, allegedly led by individuals known as Ramzy and James Afoakwa, both currently at large, and Michael Tumi, an ex-convict now in custody, extorted money from the victim by threatening to release sexually explicit images of her.

This incident highlights the growing concern over cybercrime in Ghana, particularly romance scams that exploit vulnerable individuals emotionally and financially. The Ghana Police Service has been working to combat such crimes, including a recent operation that led to the arrest of 15 individuals in Accra for alleged involvement in romance scams and wire fraud targeting victims abroad.
