OSP Asked to Freeze Ken Ofori-Atta’s Assets Amid Investigation

Activist Oliver Barker-Vormawor has called on the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) to freeze the assets of Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta due to his refusal to attend OSP invitations, citing various excuses while staying in the US. The OSP has been investigating Ken Ofori-Atta for several financial offenses, including:
– Procurement Irregularities: Allegations of mishandling public funds and irregularities in procurement deals, such as the ambulance procurement deal with Service Ghana Auto.
– GRA Tax P-Fund Mismanagement: Investigations into potential mismanagement of tax funds.
– Corruption-Related Activities: Suspicions of corruption and financial impropriety.
Ken Ofori-Atta’s legal team has attributed his absence to deteriorating health, including a cancer diagnosis and upcoming surgery, and has proposed a virtual interview as an alternative. However, the OSP has rejected this request, insisting on his physical presence.
The OSP has declared Ken Ofori-Atta a fugitive from justice and triggered an INTERPOL Red Notice for his extradition after he failed to appear by the June 2 deadline. Oliver Barker-Vormawor’s request to freeze Ken Ofori-Atta’s assets likely stems from the minister’s perceived evasiveness and refusal to cooperate with the OSP’s investigations.
