Tamale Drug Bust: 53-Year-Old Man Arrested with Over 400 Boxes of Tramadol

A 53-year-old man, Alhaji Abdulai Sayuti, has been arrested by the Northern Regional Police Command in Tamale for unlawful possession and sale of restricted pharmaceutical drugs. The arrest was made on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, after an intelligence-led operation at Sayuti’s Over-The-Counter chemical shop near Victory Cinema in Aboabo.

Large Quantity of Tramadol Seized
During the operation, police discovered 368 blisters of Tramadol (120mg) and 298 blisters of Tramaking (120mg) at the shop. Further investigation at Sayuti’s residence in Fuo, a suburb of Tamale, uncovered a warehouse containing a staggering 447 boxes of Tramadol and 11 boxes of Tramaking.

Court Appearance and Remand
Sayuti appeared in court on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, and pleaded guilty to charges of possessing restricted drugs and engaging in unauthorized sales. The court remanded him into prison custody, and he is scheduled to reappear on July 21, 2025. According to reports, Sayuti collapsed in court and was rushed to the Tamale Teaching Hospital for medical attention.

Police Commitment to Combating Drug Trade
The Northern Regional Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to tackling the drug menace in the region. Chief Inspector Alhassan Luckman Neindow, Police PRO, urged the public to provide credible information to support law enforcement efforts. “We encourage the public to volunteer information to help us fight this menace in our communities,” he stated. The police command’s actions demonstrate its dedication to enforcing drug laws and protecting public health.
