The recent search of Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi’s, residence by police and national security operatives has sparked a heated debate. The incident has led to an emotional outcry from Chairman Wontumi, who claims he is being targeted.
Interestingly, during the NPP’s tenure, Chairman Wontumi was known for his strong rhetoric against the then-opposition leader, now President Mahama, and his vice president. The chairman’s words were often laced with insults and veiled threats.
Fast-forward to the present, and the tables have turned. Chairman Wontumi’s residence is being searched, and he is crying foul. This raises questions about the double standard in politics and the expectations placed on public figures.
A Call for Consistency.
As a public figure, Chairman Wontumi’s words and actions carry weight. His past behavior has been scrutinized, and now, he finds himself in a similar situation. This incident highlights the need for consistency and accountability in politics.
The Way Forward.
Ghana’s democracy thrives on the principles of accountability, transparency, and respect for the rule of law. As the country moves forward, it’s essential to ensure that public figures are held to the same standards, regardless of their party affiliation.
By doing so, Ghana can promote a culture of responsibility and respect for the democratic process, ultimately strengthening its institutions and fostering a more inclusive and equitable society. Note that power fade so exercise it with care when you have it. Alexander Afriyie
