#”The Proliferation of Fake Doctorate Titles in Ghana: A Call for Systemic Reform”

By: Alexander Afriyie
Ghana is facing a concerning trend of individuals acquiring and flaunting fake doctorate titles, with many using these credentials to gain undeserved respect and authority. This phenomenon has permeated various sectors, including religion, healthcare, and even politics.
The misuse of academic titles has led to a situation where genuine scholars and professionals are lumped together with those who have no legitimate claim to such credentials. This not only undermines the value of hard-earned degrees but also erodes trust in the system.
It’s time for a serious decongestion of the system. Ghana needs to reset its approach to academic credentialing and ensure that only legitimate institutions and individuals are recognized. This requires a multifaceted approach, including stricter regulations, public awareness, and a commitment to upholding academic integrity.
By addressing this issue, Ghana can protect its reputation, promote genuine scholarship, and restore public trust in the system. The time for reform is now.
