A shocking incident has unfolded in the Berekum area of Ghana’s Bono Region, where a 28-year-old final-year student of the Sunyani Nursing and Midwifery Training College, Gifty Kyere, was found dead in her boyfriend’s room under mysterious circumstances.
According to reports, Gifty’s father, Pastor Kyere Jonathan, a senior pastor at the Agape Evangelical Church in Jinijini, had last seen his daughter just a day before her death, when she left home after collecting her school fees and other essential items. However, instead of returning to school, she reportedly went to her boyfriend’s residence, where her life took a tragic turn.
The 23-year-old boyfriend, Edmond Ayomah, is currently on the run but has allegedly contacted individuals, expressing his willingness to surrender to the authorities. Initial claims suggest that Ayomah told these individuals that Gifty had suffered an asthma attack and that he lacked the funds to take her to the hospital. However, preliminary investigations have refuted this claim, revealing a more sinister narrative.
Sources close to the case indicate that Ayomah had pressured Gifty to terminate a pregnancy, a development believed to have contributed to her untimely death. The police are currently conducting investigations into the matter.
Gifty’s family is still grappling with the shock of her sudden passing. Her father expressed his disbelief and heartbreak, stating that he had no idea his daughter would end up at her boyfriend’s residence instead of returning to school.
The incident has sparked outrage in the community, with many calling for justice for Gifty and her family. As the investigation continues, the police are urging anyone with information to come forward to aid in bringing the perpetrator to justice.
The tragic death of Gifty Kyere serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of unsafe abortions and the need for greater support and resources for individuals facing unplanned pregnancies. The community is mourning the loss of a promising young nursing student, and her family is seeking answers and justice for her untimely demise. Alexander Afriyie
