#US Embassy Warns Ghanaians About Visa Scams

The United States Embassy in Ghana has cautioned citizens against fraudulent visa agents claiming to have “inside connections” that can guarantee visas. According to Consul General Elliot Fertik, the embassy receives hundreds of complaints annually from victims who paid large sums for visa assistance, only to be denied.
In 2024, the embassy received over 61,000 visa applications, but only 25,000 were approved. Fertik emphasized that the visa application process is straightforward and can be completed by applicants themselves without third-party assistance.
Warning Signs of Scams:
– Unsolicited Offers: Be wary of individuals or companies offering guaranteed visa services.
– Fake Websites: Check for “.gov” suffix in official government websites.
– Advance Payments: Never pay for visa services before verifying with the US Embassy.
Protecting Yourself:
– Apply Directly: Submit visa applications through official channels.
– Verify Information: Check embassy websites for updates.
– Report Suspicious Activity: Contact law enforcement if you suspect visa fraud.
The US Embassy in Ghana urges citizens to be cautious and report any suspicious activities related to visa applications.
