President John Mahama has announced that over 150,000 first-year students at tertiary institutions in Ghana will benefit from the government’s new No-Academic-Fee policy. The initiative, which aims to make tertiary education more accessible and affordable for Ghanaians, has been allocated approximately €35.8 million (GH¢452.9 million) in funding.
To facilitate easy access to the funding, the government has launched a digital portal called No-Fees-Stress, which will enable students to apply for and manage their funding online.
In addition to the No-Academic-Fee policy, President Mahama has also announced two new social policies: Free Tertiary Education for Persons with Disabilities and the Ghana Medical Trust Fund. These initiatives are designed to further support vulnerable populations and improve access to healthcare in Ghana.
The Free Tertiary Education for Persons with Disabilities policy aims to provide opportunities for persons with disabilities to pursue higher education without financial burden. The Ghana Medical Trust Fund, on the other hand, will provide financial support to needy patients and help improve healthcare infrastructure in the country.
The government’s commitment to education and healthcare is expected to have a positive impact on the lives of Ghanaians, particularly students and vulnerable populations. The No-Academic-Fee policy and other social initiatives are set to improve access to education and healthcare, and promote economic development in Ghana. Alexander Afriyie
