Renowned lawyer Thaddeus Sory has strongly denied allegations made by NPP activist Alfred Ababio Kumi that he met with three Supreme Court Justices regarding the ongoing Article 146 proceedings against suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo.
In a Facebook post, Sory described Kumi’s claim as “a monstrous lie,” stating that no such meeting took place. He emphasized that it would be easy to fact-check the claim and suggested that those who resort to such tactics may be trying to influence the justice system through negotiation rather than due process.
Kumi’s allegations were reportedly made in a petition to President John Mahama, requesting the dissolution of the five-member committee investigating the petitions against the suspended Chief Justice. Kumi claimed that Justices Gabriel Pwamang, Samuel Adibu-Asiedu, and Yonni Kulendi had dinner with Sory at Santoku Restaurant, implying impropriety. Notably, Justice Kulendi is not even a member of the committee probing the petitions against the suspended CJ.
This development is the latest attempt by the former ruling NPP to curtail the constitutional process against the suspended Chief Justice after a prima facie case was established against her, leading to the formation of the committee to investigate the allegations. Sory’s firm denial casts doubt on the credibility of Kumi’s claims and raises questions about the motivations behind such allegations. Alexander Afriyie,
