#UDS Student Sentenced to Death for Murder Over Love Triangle Dispute

A Tamale High Court has handed down a death sentence to Salifu Nkonya Nurudeen, a Computer Science student at the University for Development Studies (UDS), Nyankpala campus, for the murder of his colleague, Wumpini Mohammed Zakiu. The court’s decision comes after Nurudeen was found guilty of murdering Wumpini over a romantic dispute.
According to evidence presented in court, Nurudeen’s girlfriend had ended their relationship and started dating Wumpini, which led to a fatal confrontation. On September 25, 2024, Wumpini’s body was discovered with multiple stab wounds, and his mobile phone was missing. Police investigations traced the victim’s phone to Nurudeen’s location, where it was found hidden under his bed.
Further investigations revealed that Nurudeen had sent messages from Wumpini’s phone, pretending to end the relationship with his girlfriend and sending another message to Wumpini’s friend. Although Nurudeen admitted to sending the text messages, he denied committing the murder. The court, however, ruled that the circumstantial and digital evidence was overwhelming, leading to his conviction and subsequent death sentence .
