Police Arrest 9 Suspects Over MoMo Robbery And Double Murder At Fiapre-Zongo

Two people dead, three others injured after armed robbers attack MoMo vendor, rob her of GH¢30,000

The Bono Regional Police Command has arrested nine (9) suspects in connection with a violent armed robbery and murder incident that has left two people dead at Fiapre-Zongo, a suburb of the Sunyani Municipality.
The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, August 5, 2026, at about 8:00 p.m., targeted a mobile money vendor.

According to a press release signed by the Bono Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, and dated August 6, 2026 [Ref: BAHQ/PAU.3/V.1/58], the police received a distress call of an ongoing robbery at Fiapre and responded swiftly, but the perpetrators had fled before their arrival.

How The Attack Happened
Preliminary police investigations reveal that the armed men attacked a mobile money vendor, identified as Amina Abu, aged 30, and robbed her of GH¢30,000.00 in cash.
During the attack, the robbers opened fire, hitting four victims with pellets from gunshots.

The victims have been identified as:
– Amina Abu, 30, MoMo vendor
– Khadija Abu, 23
– Anifa Tanko, 24
– Ibrahim Osei, 40

As the suspects were fleeing, Ibrahim Osei came out of his room and was shot. He later died on arrival at the hospital.
Police say during a further search of the scene, an unidentified man was found with a black mask lying beside him behind Ibrahim Osei’s house with severe injuries. He also died while receiving treatment. Police suspect he is one of the robbers.

All five victims were rushed to the Bono Regional Teaching Hospital for medical attention. Police retrieved six (6) spent BB casings from the scene as exhibits for forensic examination.

The bodies of the two deceased have been deposited at the hospital morgue for preservation, identification and autopsy.

9 Arrested After Jumping Off Cattle Truck
In a major breakthrough, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects had jumped off a cattle truck heading towards the Berekum direction to commit the crime.
The Twumasikrom police checkpoint was immediately alerted to intercept two vehicles carrying cattle, leading to the arrest of nine suspects who are currently in custody assisting investigations. They will be processed for prosecution.

The Bono Regional Police Command has assured the public that efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining perpetrators who are still at large and bring them to face the full rigours of the law.
