Suale’s Murder Case Discontinued, Suspect Discharged

The Madina District Court has dropped the prosecution of Daniel Owusu Koranteng, the suspect accused of involvement in the 2019 murder of investigative journalist Ahmed Suale. The court discontinued the proceedings on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, following a directive from the Attorney General’s Office.

Background of the Case
Ahmed Suale, a member of the Tiger Eye P.I. team, was shot and killed by unknown assailants in January 2019. The incident sparked widespread condemnation and calls for justice. Koranteng was arrested and charged with murder and abetment of murder, but the prosecution’s case was withdrawn due to lack of evidence.

Attorney General’s Directive

According to the Attorney-General’s legal opinion, analysis of phone records and eyewitness descriptions did not establish any connection between Koranteng and the murder.

Court’s Decision
The presiding judge, Her Worship Susan D. Nyakote, ruled that the prosecution’s case did not meet the evidentiary threshold required to sustain charges of abetment of murder and murder against Koranteng. The court subsequently discharged the accused.

Next Steps
The Attorney General’s Office will focus on identifying and apprehending the unknown gunmen believed to have carried out the fatal shooting. Suale’s murder remains a significant concern for the journalism community, and many are still calling for justice.
