NPP Youth Organizer in Kumawu Sounds Alarm Over Alleged Rigging Plot Ahead of January 31 Primaries

Kumawu, Ghana – In a shocking revelation, Nana Sarpong, the Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Kumawu constituency, has exposed a purported scheme by some party executives to manipulate the January 31 NPP primaries in favor of a specific candidate. The allegations, made in a widely circulated video statement, have sent ripples through the party’s local structures and raised concerns about the integrity of the electoral process.

Sarpong, who is part of Kennedy Ohene Agyapong’s campaign team, disclosed that the names of several individuals unfamiliar to the Kumawu electoral areas have been included in the election album. “These are people who have never participated in any party activities, never attended meetings, and are unknown to the local community,” he said. He mentioned some of the 15 names identified: Amma Antwiwaah, Abena Gyaamah, Aboagye Gloria, Asiadu serbu, Osei Boateng, Ama Serwaah etc According to Sarpong, the strategy employed by the alleged perpetrators is to instruct these individuals to stay away from party meetings and only appear on the voting day to cast ballots, a tactic aimed at skewing the results in favor of a favored candidate.

The Youth Organizer presented photographic evidence and names of the individuals in question, asserting that their inclusion is a blatant attempt to rig the election. “We are not going to stand idly by while the future of our party is compromised,” Sarpong warned, adding that his team is working diligently to ensure these names are removed from the voter register. “Fairness and transparency are the only ways to ensure unity within the party after the elections,” he stressed.

Sarpong urged members of other electoral areas to conduct thorough vetting of the voter lists to prevent similar irregularities in the upcoming presidential primaries. “Let’s protect the NPP’s reputation. Let’s ensure this election is free and fair,” he appealed.

The NPP has not yet issued an official response to the allegations, but the incident has amplified concerns about internal divisions and the potential for electoral malpractices as Ghana prepares for critical political contests. The outcome of the Kumawu primaries could set a precedent for the party’s internal dynamics in the lead-up to national elections.

The controversy highlights the importance of vigilance among party members and the need for robust mechanisms to safeguard the electoral process. As the January 31 deadline approaches, all eyes are on the NPP’s leadership to address these allegations and ensure a transparent, credible primary.
