Police in the Ashanti Region are hunting for suspected robbers who killed one person and made away an amount of 138,000 Ghana Cedis in their robbery expedition that took place at Buokrom in Kumasi last Tuesday.
The Ashanti Regional Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Ghana Police Service, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Godwin Ahianyo who addressed the media in Kumasi this afternoon said police personnel were searching every nook and cranny for the suspects to face the full rigours of the law.
He said at around 3:30pm last Tuesday, police received distress call that four armed men on two motorbikes attacked a business venture known as Consult Agency Limited at Buokrom Estate Junction, a surburb of Kumasi.
In their robbery expedition, they robbed at gunpoing and managed to escape with a cash of 138, 000 Ghana Cedis, adding that in the process of escaping, they shot to death one Collins Dapaah, 43, who happened to a customer at the crime scene.
He said the body of the deceased had beenr conveyed to the Ebenezer Hospital Mogue at Old Tafo for an autopsy report.
According to Mr. Ahianyo, the victim was later rushed to the Manhyia Hospital for treatment but was however pronounced dead on arrival.
Meanwhile, one of the workers at the agency who spoke to ghanacrimereport.com said the robbers invaded the area between 3pm and 4pm on Tuesday afternoon while they weren’t expecting such a crime.
According to the eyewitness, the suspects who were on two motorbikes went to the mobile money merchant and took the money from him.
Other eyewitnesses who also spoke to the ghanacrimereport.com said the deceased, who came out of a room to alert the people around the area of the ongoing robbery was shot dead instantly.
ASP Ahianyo called on the general public to be wary of strange appearances and activities of people on motorbikes and emphasised the need to report suspected acts of such suspected robbers to the police without delay.
