*NSAWAM, May 25, 2026* — The Ghana Police Service is reviewing CCTV footage after an armed robbery at the Goil Fuel Station near Kwafokrom on the outskirts of Nsawam Sunday night.
The attack happened around 8:00pm on Sunday, 24 May 2026, according to the Eastern South Regional Police Command. Preliminary reports indicate that three masked men arrived on two unregistered motorbikes and held up fuel attendants and customers at gunpoint.
*What the CCTV shows*
Footage from the station’s security cameras, parts of which have been handed to police, shows the suspects entering the forecourt with weapons. They forced attendants to hand over cash from the day’s sales before fleeing toward the Accra-Kumasi highway.
A pump attendant who was on duty, and asked not to be named, said the incident lasted under four minutes. “They pointed and shouted for money. Nobody was shot, but one driver was hit with a gun butt,” he said.
*Police response*
Eastern South Regional Police PRO, DSP Juliana Obeng, confirmed the incident Monday morning.
“We received a distress call at 8:07pm. Patrol teams got there within 12 minutes, but the suspects had fled. No deaths were recorded. One person sustained minor injuries and was treated at Nsawam Government Hospital.”
She added that the CCTV video is central to the ongoing investigation. “We are enhancing the footage to identify the motorbikes and suspects. We appeal to the public to share any information. The emergency line is 18555.”
*Station operations*
The Goil station at Kwafokrom resumed partial operations Monday afternoon under police guard. Management declined to disclose the amount stolen but said staff are receiving counseling.
*Pattern of attacks*
Sunday’s incident is the third reported attack on a fuel station along the Nsawam-Suhum stretch this year. In February, a TotalEnergies station at Dobro was robbed in a similar 7pm raid.
The Eastern South Regional Command says it has increased night patrols and is engaging fuel station owners on security upgrades, including panic alarms linked directly to police posts.
*Public safety notice*
Police are urging commuters to avoid carrying large sums at night and for fuel stations to limit cash held on-site after 6pm. Anyone with information on the Kwafokrom robbery is asked to contact the Nsawam District Police or dial 18555.
Investigation is ongoing.
