A 49-year-old Ghana, Isaac Gyekye was crash to death on early hours of Thursday on Interstate 45 near New Waverly in Texas, leaving him dead after he bumped with an 18-wheeler truck. The crash happened between Huntsville and New Waverly.
Our investigation indicated that Gyekye who is a Corrections officer (Prison Officer) at Texas Department of Criminal Justice in Huntsville, Texas was returning from work after working for more than 13 hours.
Troopers with the Texas Department of Public Safety, was on the scene around 6:22 a.m. to attend to the two vehicles.
The initial crash examination indicates that a 2018 International semi truck and trailer was parked on the shoulder of Interstate 45 waiting on a tow truck.
Mr, Gyekye’s car a 2008 Toyota RAV 4 was travelling southbound on the interstate shoulder crashed with the back of the trailer.
According to the Officials of the New Waverly Fire Department the driver was trapped in the car upon their arrival.
New Waverly Firefighters did a speedy detachment due to the brutality of the victim’s injuries and moved him to a waiting EMS unit.
According to DPS officials, the driver of the 18-Wheeler, David Gerald was not injured.
The driver of the Toyota, Isaac Gyekye was transported to the Huntsville Hospital and he was pronounced dead by the medical staff.
Traffic was heavy for several hours as tow operators worked to clear the crash scene.
The investigation is underway by Department of Public Safety troopers.
Mr. Gyekye left behind a wife and children. He attended Kumasi Anglican Senior High School according to his facebook profile. His family should contact New Waverly Department of Public Safety troopers.
