The Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH), Accra has handed over two persons suspected to have engaged in illegal blood selling business at the hospital to the police.
A press release issued by the Public Relations Unit of the hospital on May 22, 2021 indicates that the authority of the hospital got hint of the thievery and quickly informed its security.
The security of the hospital however, upon the tip-off embarked on special operation and arrested the two suspects whose identity have been concealed for now.
A copy of the release available to the ghanacrimereport.com reads that the suspects were arrested at around 2.am on May 22, 2021 at the third floor of the Surgical Ward of the hospital where the two attempted to steal several prints of blood which had been mobilised for various surgical procedures.
“The suspects have been handed over to the Korle Bu Police which has initiated investigations into the case”, the release stated, adding that “we urge staff to be vigilant when they see any suspicious activity going on in the Hospital and to immediately alert the security to forestall the occurrence of any untoward incidents in the Hospital”.
Sources close to the ghanacrimereport.com indicate that the two suspects are national service personnel who were posted to the health facility to undergo their national service duties for the 2020-2021 service year.
It is not clear yet whether suspects had been dealing with a syndicate within or without the hospital.
