The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) Task Force has arrested two Chinese nationals for engaging in illegal mining activities in the Tano Anwia Forest Reserve in the Jomoro area of the Western North Region. The operation, which took place on October 8, 2025, resulted in the seizure of several equipment, including:
– A Toyota Land Cruiser V8: Registration number GR 442-14
– Four excavators
– Two heavy water pumping machines
– 12 makeshift structures were destroyed
This recent arrest is part of NAIMOS’ ongoing efforts to combat galamsey, a menace that has been plaguing Ghana’s environment and economy. In recent months, NAIMOS has arrested dozens of Chinese nationals involved in illegal mining activities. In August 2025, nine Chinese nationals were arrested in Wassa Akropong, Western Region, and four excavators were seized. Similarly, in July 2025, 11 Chinese nationals were arrested in the Bole/Bamboi area, and several pieces of equipment were confiscated, including four Shacman tipper trucks and a bulldozer.
NAIMOS remains committed to protecting Ghana’s natural resources and environment from the devastating effects of galamsey. The Secretariat will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that those involved in these illegal activities face the full rigors of the law.
