THE ROTARACT club (the youth version of Rotary) Sunyani District of Bono Region last Saturday donated set of computers and a projector to the Sunyani Technical Institute to help students studying ICT benefit from the practical aspect of the course.
According to Principal of the institute, Paul Alexander Sabbi even though the Sunnyani Technical Institute offers ICT programmed to over 75:students under Technical and Vocational Education and Training( TVET) teachers only teach theory as there are no computers to engage them on practical aspect of the course.
‘Out of over 1,500 students population of the institute 75 students are offering Information Communication Technology ( ICT) but the school has not a single computers at their computer lab to do practical work, he told the Rotaractors.
He continued, ‘We allow some of the students to bring their personal labtops which the teachers depend on to teach the rest. The ICT department has no single computer on its own. All efforts to solicit same from benevolence organizations failed and that was my worry.
However, the President of Sunyani Rotoaract Club, Theresa Appau was happy the club has come to solve the problem with ten HP desktop computers and a projector to aid in practical training of the students.
The aim of Rotaractors or for that matter Rotarians is to put smile on faces of the needy in society hence our visit to the school to do need assignment to help in our small way as we celebrate five years of existence in Sunnyani.
It is after the need assessment of the school that we decided to present computers to assist them in their studies.
Studdnts offering ICT are many and we cannot procure each for a student so we provided ten HP desktop computers and a projector so ,as the teacher teaches it can be projected to benefit the whole class.
She pleaded with the students to take good care of the machines for the next generation of students to also benefit .
‘Your lessons are no longer going to be theory alone but will have the benefit handle computers. She further advised them to study hard and come out with flying colors and take charge of their destinies. .
Mr. Paul Alexander Sabbi was emotional as he offerred appreciation to the club saying he least expected it since he made efforts to get computers for school bur failed. He, however asked for more since the students are many.
According to him the Sunnyani Technical Institute was established in the 1970s and offered technical and vocational course but has now come under the TVET programme and offer courses such Electrical Engineering, Block laying and Concreting, Auto mobile Engineering, Plumbing and Gas fitting, Welding and Fabrication, Fashion and Design Technology among others.
He appealed to government and other benevolence organizations to come to the aid of the school with students and teachers accommodation.
We are overwhelmed with encroachers on the school land by individuals so appealed to TVET authorities, the Sunnyani Traditional Council and Regional education authorities to intervene on our behalf.
