#Walewale MP Dr. Kabiru Tia Mahama is backing the Minority Caucus’s demand for disciplinary action against Sammy Gyamfi, Acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board. Gyamfi is facing scrutiny over a video showing him giving $1,000 to Nana Agradaa, a popular Ghanaian evangelist and former fetish priestess.
Dr. Kabiru Tia emphasized that the government must apply the same standards to Gyamfi as it did to former Sanitation Minister Cecilia Dapaah, who was asked to resign after a scandal involving large sums of money found in her home. “We cannot measure Cecilia Dapaah on one standard and try to measure Mr. Sammy Gyamfi on a different standard,” Dr. Kabiru Tia stated.
The MP argued that Gyamfi’s actions breach President John Mahama’s Code of Conduct for Public Officials, which prioritizes integrity, accountability, and transparency. Gyamfi’s gesture, according to Dr. Kabiru Tia, undermines the integrity of the Ghanaian cedi and raises broader economic concerns.
Calls for Disciplinary Action:
– Minority Caucus: Backs Dr. Kabiru Tia’s call for disciplinary action against Gyamfi.
– Transparency International Ghana: Urges President Mahama to take decisive action, citing the need for accountability among public officeholders.
– Captain (Rtd) Nkrabea Effah Dartey: Demands punishment for Gyamfi, emphasizing that the President must set an example for others.
The Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, has summoned Gyamfi to explain the circumstances surrounding the transaction. Gyamfi has apologized, describing the act as a private gesture of kindness that inadvertently became public. Alexander Afriyie
