#Kofi Asare Revisits Alma Mater, Distributes Exercise Books to Public Basic Schools

Ghanaian entrepreneur and philanthropist Kofi Asare marked a significant milestone in his life by revisiting his alma mater, Madina Estate Basic Schools, as part of his annual birthday ritual. Asare, who turned another year older, commenced the distribution of 10,000 exercise books to public basic schools, starting with his former school.
A Trip Down Memory Lane
Asare’s visit brought back fond memories of his time at the school. He reminisced about his days as a student, from Class 1 to Class 4, before leaving for Canada in 1988. He also reconnected with old friends, including Stephen Effah, whom he met again at university.
Inspiring the Next Generation
During his visit, Asare shared his personal story with the students, recounting how he sold bofrot and iced water at UPSA in the mornings before attending school in the afternoons. He encouraged the children to study hard and strive for excellence, just as he did.
Concerns about School Infrastructure
However, Asare’s visit was not without its challenges. He expressed disappointment at the state of the school’s Kindergarten block and the deterioration of school furniture. He promised to support the school with new desks to improve the learning environment.
A Missed Opportunity for a Photo
Despite receiving prior notice, the teachers declined to take a photo with Asare, citing the need for permission from their directors. Asare lamented the micro-management of schools by the Ghana Education Service (GES), which he believes hinders innovation and progress.
A Call to Action
Asare’s visit serves as a reminder of the importance of supporting public education in Ghana. His philanthropic efforts are a testament to his commitment to empowering the next generation. As he continues to strive for excellence, Asare hopes that others will join him in making a positive impact on the lives of Ghanaian children.
