Family of one of the suspects named by the Inspector General of Police Christian Tetteh Yehonu to be behind the robbery at GB filling station at Atebubu in the Bono East Region have refuted the claim saying their son was a victim of a circumstance.

According to spokesman of the family. Abdul Aziz Bin Salia their uncle Razak Abdul also known as Alhaji Gao was fuel filling station operator but was proclaimed by the IGP as one of the suspects behind the robbery of GB filling station stressing the suspect had since passed on.

At press a conference at Sampa in the Jaman North District of Bono Region, spokesman Abdul Aziz Ben Salia refuted the IGP”s claim saying their uncle, brother and father who was a bread winner for the family and never known to be an armed robber. ‘He is a businessman and engaged in descent job to take care of his family’

According to him, Alhaji Gao was arrested in his home at Techiman by police with one other since May 12, 2026 and has since not been seen.

‘All efforts by family members to locate him either dead or life has since proved futile. The police have failed to show us where our brother and father is whether dead or life.

Mr. Aziz appealed to President John Dramani Mahama, the IGP, the Attorney General and all Human Right organizations seek justice their beloved one by impressing on the police service to release the body of the suspect to the family.

Explaining their side of the story which they said needed investigation into , Abdul Aziz Bin Salia said their love one Razak Abdul was a business partner to the GB filling station owner. ‘They both created and operated the GB filling before misunderstanding arouse leading to our uncle to sue at court’.

The court after deliberations ruled that the partner should operate the fuel station for five years and after that hands over ownership to Abdul Razak Oisuman. After the five years elasped in 2023 the partner failed to hand over the operations of the GB feeling to him. The manger of this GB witnessed two robberies before this third time but Razak our uncle was never mentioned as the one behind. We therefore find it difficult to appreciate why our beloved one will now be accused of being behind the current robbery.

According to him, Abdul Razak Osuman aka Alhaji Gao after his partner failed to hand over operations to him later set up his own filling station just close to the GB filling station so wondered why he would organized robbers to attack his old partner.

According to them, the family suspect foul play in the death or otherwise of Razak so called for independent investigation.

He maintained he was not involved and not behind the robbery. Rasak was about 60 years was never a robbery gang leader.

According to him, after the GB robbery information reached their uncle that accusing fingers were pointing to him so he reported himself to Atebubu Police command but the commander told him, Razak’s name never came up thus gave him his personal contact to contact him in case of any development so the family wondered why his wife and children were arrested when he travelled to Accra on a business engagement after reporting himself to police.

He alleged that after his returned from Accra he was picked up by armed policemen who beat him to pulp though he never resisted arrest.

‘Since then we have not set our eyes on our beloved one again only to hear the IGP during his press conference said Alhaji Gao is dead. Even if he is dead we want his body released to us’, he pleaded.

It must be recalled that during IGP’s visit to Bono East on May, 22 2026, the Inspector General of Police Christian Tetteh Yehunu at a press conference Atebubu reiterated that the case involving robbery at the GB filling station, the police arrested eight suspects including two women. Three of the suspects namely; Adam Adamu, 27, Sule Amadu Sobah, 22 and Abdulia Ali 45 are in custody, while the other three suspects Abdul Razak Osuman alias Alhaji Gao, Nuhu Awudu and Daudu Issah passed on in the course of the operation and the two female suspects who are nursing- mothers were granted police enquiry bail.

IGP also reiterated that investigation has so far revealed the main suspect in the case Abdul Razak Osuman alias Alhaji Gao (now deceased) ,who was a filling station operator had contracted one of his gangs , the Nuhu gang to rob and murder the owner of the GB filling station.

The gang on the day of the incident monitored the owner of GB filling station movements and when they thought he had entered the filling station they attacked . Unfortunately for the gang , the owner had left the station again in few minutes before the gang attacked and when they realised they had missed him they became infuriated and started firing indiscriminately resulting in the death of two innocent people with two others sustained gunshots wounds. This the family disclaimer and called for independent investigation to ascertain the truth in the police’s statement
