Three armed robbers jailed 135 years

Duayaw-Nkwanta Circuit Court, presided over by His Lordship Edward Twum has sentenced three armed robbers to a total of 135 years in prison in connection with a series of armed robberies of 4 mobile phones and cash of GH¢320 that they conducted at multiple locations  in Subrisu, a village near Duayaw Nkwanta.

Each of the three persons was sentenced to 45 years for robbing four victims of their phones and monies on their way from the market.

This case involved a chilling armed robbery spree during which innocent community members were subjecting to severe beatings after taken the monies and phones from them.

According to court documents, Ibrahim Musah, 23, Tahiru Mumen, 18 and Bella Musah Jalo 22 were found guilty on two counts of conspiracy to commit crime contrary to section 23(1) of the Criminal offenses Act 1960(Act 29) and robbery.

Prosecutor Chief Inspector Mohammed Adnan said on June 27, 2021, at about 7 pm, the three accused persons with five other collaborator currently at large wearing masks armed with cutlass and wood affixed with a spray pipe that bear a resemblance like a gun mounted a barricade on a section of Adrobaa Subriso road with firewood, subjected the victims to severe beatings and robbed them of their mobile phones and amount of GH¢320.00.

The Police patrol team was informed about the robbery and with swiftly action moved in, the accused persons on seeing the Police escaped into the bush.

The Police searched the area but unable to locate them. However the police retrieved a blue long sleeves shin, black and white torn shirt at the scene.

Based on gathered intelligence, on July 3, 2021 police went to the residence of the accused persons at Adrobaa where the remaining portion of the torn black and white shirt was picked.

Accused persons were arrested and during interrogation, they admitted the offense and led Police to a nearby bush to retrieve four (4) mobile phones they robbed from the complainants.

A search carried out shown two cutlasses and a wood affixed with a spray pipe that resembles a gun and was used for the act.
