Authorities of Tabre Methodist Junior High School (JHS) at Tabre in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District in the Ashanti Region have expressed worry, following the insecurity atmosphere posed on the school by marijuana smokers in the area, often known as “wee smokers”.
They are calling on government to come to their rescue as these smokers do not only threaten security of teachers and pupils, but also, the serene teaching and learning environment.
As of the time of filing this report, the Atwima Nwabiagya North District Directorate of Education and the Police were collaborating to investigate the incident.
Reports reaching ghanacrimereport.com indicate that these smokers use some classrooms of the school as their smoking abode and when teachers tell them to desist from that behavior, the smokers break in anger and turn to threaten to visit mayhem on the teachers.
Ghanacrimereport’s Nana Peprah gathers that the teachers and pupils were reportedly attacked by the said wee smokers after they (the wee smokers) accused the school for calling police to arrest some suspected drug addicts who smoke and defecate in the school all the time.
It could be recalled that Police patrol team arrested some suspected drug addicts in the community and after they were granted bail, they accused the headmaster and the teachers for calling in the police to arrest them.
On April 26, 2021 while classes were ongoing, the suspects invaded the school and attacked one teacher and some school children with sticks, stones and other deadly weapons as a revenge.
The headmaster of the school is also said to have been threatened by the alleged attackers to wait for their next attack.
Speaking to Mr. George Clifford Appiah, the headmaster of the school, he said the incident had been reported to the police while the victims were still in the hospital receiving treatment.
The Chief of Tabre Nana Sarfo Kumaa III has confirmed the incident, urging the police to speed up their investigations by bringing the perpetrators to book.
He seized the opportunity to advise the youth of the area to desist from wee smoking and other social vices.
